Close to the size, usually a little under
Most videos land at or just under the size you pick. Very grainy or fast-moving footage can come out a little over. If that happens, the result says so, and you can try a smaller size.
Pick your upload limit, compress, and send. It all happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, and there is no sign-up or watermark.
Lower numbers look better and make bigger files.

Compressing your video
Keep this tab open. Your video stays on your device the whole time.
That didn't work
Drop it in, paste it, or choose a file. It opens right here in your browser.
Free account or Nitro Basic, or type any size. We aim a little under it.
Check the new size, save the MP4, then drag it into your Discord chat.
Checked in October 2026. Discord’s own help pages have the latest limits.

To keep compressing fast, the video is made smaller, usually 360p, and smaller still for long videos or tight sizes. That looks fine in a Discord chat, but it is not a full-screen copy of your original.
Every second of video needs some space, so a long video may not fit in 20 MB at all. If your size is too small for the video’s length, the tool tells you the smallest size it can make.
The result is an MP4 with H.264 video, which plays right in the chat. Keep H.264 for Discord: the H.265 option makes smaller files, but they may not play there.

A little under your limit. For a free account, aim for about 18 MB to fit the 20 MB limit. With Nitro Basic, aim for about 45 MB to fit 50 MB. The quick picks above the size box do this for you.
Apps count megabytes in slightly different ways, and some videos come out a little over the size you pick. Aiming under leaves room for both, so the file still fits.
Then send it as it is. The tool only makes videos smaller, so if it says your size isn’t smaller than the original, the video already fits under that limit.
We can’t promise it. Discord sets the limit for each account, can try out different limits on some accounts, and can change them. If Discord turns the file down, check the limit it shows and compress again with a smaller size.
It depends on the video. Short clips fit easily. For long ones, the tool shows the smallest size it can make for that length before you start, so you know straight away if it won’t fit.
No. The compressing happens in your browser, on your own device. Your video is only sent anywhere when you send it on Discord yourself.
It runs in modern browsers with WebCodecs, and works best in Chrome and Edge. If your browser can’t compress video, the page tells you up front instead of failing halfway.
It is free, with no account, no trial and no watermark. The file you download is just your video, smaller.
The same tool works for email, forms, chat apps and anywhere else with a size limit. Use the general video compressor to pick a quality or aim for any size you like.
